Recently, physics teacher Dr. Bozidar Jovanovic announced his resignation from BHSEC. Due to financial reasons he has decided to continue the profession he pursued before coming to Bard, working in quantitative finance. He isn’t thrilled to leave his teaching career behind, but remarked, “life is hard and when it gives you tough decisions, you must act accordingly.”
Jovanovic teaches two ninth grade physics classes, a Year 2 physics with calculus class, a tutorial class, and is the advisor of the Debate Club. He said that he enjoyed working at Bard and that physics has always been an interest of his, enabling him to understand the world around him and look at things from a different perspective. As a teacher, he felt he was able to pass his love of physics on to his students. One of his freshman students, Tal Aloni, said, “I’m upset he has to leave. He was a great teacher with a fantastic personality. He made learning physics fun, especially with the hands on, visual experiments. Besides, I just learned to pronounce his name!”
Over the few months he worked at BHSEC, Dr. Jovanovic developed a reputation for being a demanding teacher and he is fully aware of it. Entering the school, his goal was to provide both challenge and excitement beyond the specified curriculum. Dr. Jovanovic stated, “there’s a great pleasure in working as a teacher. I’m always delighted and inspired to see the kids’ motivation to learn.”
Unfortunately, we will soon be losing this great faculty member. Currently, a replacement is being sought to take over Dr. Jovanovic’s position. With only a few days left before his departure, the students and faculty bid him farewell and good luck.
“I’m going to miss everybody very much: the school, teaching, my colleagues and of course, all of my students,” Dr. Jovanovic said.
