The Asian Culture Club’s (ACC) 3rd Annual Faculty Karaoke Fundraiser will be taking place this February in the BHSEC auditorium. The fundraiser has been a huge success in the past, raising large amounts of money for charity.
Since it will be the faculty on stage performing, students are anxiously awaiting the event. Gideon Salzman, the ACC’s president, explains, “It’s amusing to see our teachers let loose.” The ACC’s Vice President Ava Robinson jokingly adds, “We’ve done this event for three years… no one ever does a ‘good job’. That’s part of the fun of it.”
The faculty seems to be just as excited as the students. Mr. Gagstetter, who participated in the event last year, said that doing the event was a great experience. Ms. Nardone, a candidate to perform this year, enthusiastically commented, “I love karaoke. It’s one of my favorite pastimes and I really hope that people will vote for me. I’m not afraid to put on a show.”
The faculty members supporting the club’s event include Dr. Rosenberg, Mr. Gagstetter, Ms. Nardone, Dr. Mazie, Dr. Matthews, Ms. Miranda, Dr. Manko, Mr. Ducett, and the dynamic duo of Ms. Walk and Ms. Stemmer. Of these, only five will make it to the stage. Members of the Asian Culture Club collect donations in each teachers’ name, and the five teachers who receive the largest donations earn a chance in the spotlight. According to Robinson, competition is fierce, but Spanish teacher Mr. Ducett leads the lineup of nine candidates. ”I don’t know if I’m in the lead yet,” commented Ms. Nardone, “But hopefully I will get a chance to perform.” In addition to being a fun event for both students and faculty, it is also raising money for a good cause. All proceeds will be sent to aid an Asian country, to be selected based on need.
Unfortunately, the club had to postpone the event, which was originally planned for December 16th. “This change is not necessarily a bad thing,” Salzman stated. “February 3rd is a perfect time for this show. It is the start of the semester, which means no stress and everyone will be in a relaxed mood.”
