A Rocky Night: The BHSEC Dance

    by Amaris Talbert

The Yearbook Committee hosted their semi-annual BHSEC dance this past Friday. With performers like EE and Phony PPL advertised, many BHSEC and BHSEC II students made a point to attend. The dance started well. The lighting looked great (courtesy of Raihan Saleh), people were dancing, and the turnout from BHSEC II excited the Year Book Committee and the administration, who wanted to bridge the gap between the two schools.

    Boys Tennis Team Prevails

    by Caleb Madison

The boy’s tennis team has narrowly escaped what could have been their demise. Since the team started the season with only 7 players (the minimum by PSAL rules), when several players realized they had prior commitments, consequences followed. PSAL Tennis rules state that a team that does not show up with enough players to a game by the given time will receive a forfeit. Thus, the absence of singles players Lucas Howard and Givi Bashishvili would force the Raptors to forfeit a large number of games. Enough games in fact, to make the sports commissioner consider kicking the Raptors out of the league and even suspending them for the following season.

    Who Are the Phony PPL?

Senior Omar Grant’s band is much more than your average high-school music group. Co-founded in June 2008 by Omar’s brother, Aja, Phony PPL has quickly become a known name among BHSEC students. Boasting three vocalists, two piano players, a drummer, a guitarist, a saxophonist and Omar on bass, Phony PPL delivers a fresh and professional sound. The band seamlessly mixes rock, jazz and hip hop together, innovatively layering their instruments into a clean and elegant package.

    Girls Soccer: Bard vs LaGuardia

    by Gabi Azevedo

This Wednesday the Lady Raptors faced LaGuardia on Randall’s Island. It was a difficult game played in bad weather and in the end the Raptors lost 5-1. Maya Osborne, Bard’s goalie, made many daring saves, but her efforts were not enough to prevent the two goals scored by LaGuardia in the first half of the game. Despite the admirable attempts of the Raptor defense, LaGuardia’s strong passing ultimately resulted in the loss.

The Future of BHSEC Science: What to Expect in the Upcoming Year

    by Gabi Azevedo

BHSEC’s science department has been undergoing significant change lately. In addition to modifications to the freshman and sophomore science curriculum, changes are also being made to the college science classes. Bard, like every other school in New York City, has felt the effects of the severe budget cuts. Since Dr. Carter left last year, the science department has been spread thin. As a result, college-level physics and other college-level science classes, such as forensics, will not be offered next year.
