    BHSEC Divides and Unites Over Local Field

    As of April 20, 2010, BHSEC enforced a new rule regarding the use of the public field by the student body. Under the new regulations, BHSEC students would not be allowed to use the field at all while an outdoor gym class was in session.

    On May 6th, the Asian Culture Club hosted BHSEC’s annual Battle of the Bands. Ava Robinson and Cat Schneiderman organized this year’s event, taping up posters all around the school to hype up the fundraiser.

    Chinese Exchange 2010

    Last week BHSEC was joined by a group of foreign students from China. These six students whose English names are Bridge, Alex, Jing-Jing Paris, Eleanor, and Arthur, are part of an exchange program between their school, Yali, and BHSEC.

    This year BHSEC is adding a Latin trip to the already large number of school trips and exchange programs that are offered. The trip is currently being planned by Ms. Rowen and Dr. Clark and will include sixteen Latin students.

    Physics Teacher Dr. Jovanovic Resigns

    Recently, physics teacher Dr. Bozidar Jovanovic announced his resignation from BHSEC. Due to financial reasons he has decided to continue the profession he pursued before coming to Bard, working in quantitative finance. He isn’t thrilled to leave his teaching career behind, but remarked, “life is hard and when it gives you tough decisions, you must act accordingly.”

    Freshman Perform on Stage for their First Time at BHSEC

    On Friday, November 13, the 9th grade class enjoyed seven short plays, all written and performed by their peers. The first-quarter Intro to Theatre class presented final composition pieces with assistance from the Epic Theatre Ensemble, a group dedicated to working with Off-Broadway productions and NYC Public Schools.

    Hip-hop Icon from Run-DMC at BHSEC

    DMC, aka Darryl McDaniels, of the popular hip-hop group Run-D.M.C. signed autographs, took pictures, and spoke to students outside of BHSEC during fourth period on Wednesday, 10/21. The founding member of arguably the most influential hip-hop group of all time, DMC, stood in front of the white wall facing the Astroturf field.

    Raptors Crush George Washington And Secure First Place In Division

    The soccer game between the Bard Raptors and George Washington was much anticipated. Both teams were undefeated and had easily beaten all of their previous opponents. It was a clash of the Titans but the Raptors were more than ready for the challenge.

    After two years of almost straight losses, the Lady Raptors won their first match of the season against Stuyvesant High School. The final score was a mind-boggling 6-0, as many goals as the team scored all last season.
